What happened to OfficeFootballPool, and what to do about your pool

If you ran a pool on OfficeFootballPool for years and logged in this fall to find Splash Sports instead, nothing went wrong on your end. The site was sold, merged with its biggest competitor, and rebuilt around real-money contests. Here is the sequence, with the company's own statements linked at the bottom, and then the practical part: what a commissioner can do now.

The timeline

Late 2021. Splash Inc., then called BetterPool, buys both RunYourPool and OfficeFootballPool, which its later press release calls “the two leading operators in the office pool space.” Nothing visible changes for users at first.

June 5, 2023. Splash announces Splash Sports, described as a “real-money peer-to-peer gaming platform” where groups compete in games of skill and the company “does not allow games against the house.” The pitch is that commissioners no longer chase entry fees or pay out winners, because the platform handles deposits and payouts. The release says the combined user base grew from 600,000 to 2.2 million active users in eighteen months.

Later in 2023. Splash Sports launches real-money contests in 33 states and a commissioner rewards program.

2025 to 2026. RunYourPool and OfficeFootballPool contests move under the Splash Sports brand. A Splash help article about the 2026 golf season says OFP “will be fully retired after the NFL season,” and the current commissioner FAQ says the OFP dashboard and app have been discontinued and all contests are now on Splash Sports.

What actually changed for a commissioner

Three things. First, the default is money in the app: Splash collects entry fees, pays winners, and takes “a service fee of 10% of the prize payout.” Second, the no-money path still exists but is second class: entertainment-only contests are “self-managed,” carry “a one-time service fee,” and “live customer support is not included.” Third, real-money play is gated by state and by age, so a pool with a member in the wrong state, or under the age their state sets, cannot all play the same contest for money.

History was handled reasonably: Splash says supported formats had “rosters + history fully ported and ready to restart,” while a few formats (golf survivor, season-long salary cap, season-long tiers) were discontinued and left viewable but not restartable.

Your options

Stay on Splash Sports. The right call if your group wants the app to hold the pot and everyone is in an eligible state. You give up 10% of the prize pool for that and you are now inside a real-money product, with the account verification that comes with it.

Move to a self-serve hosting site. OfficePoolStop, FunOfficePools and EasyOfficePools all host pick'em, survivor and squares pools you configure yourself, with the money handled offline the way OFP used to. If you run several formats or a non-football pool, start there.

Move to Be the Pick. This is our site, so weigh that. It runs one thing well: private college and NFL pick'em pools against the spread, for groups of friends or an office. The lines are frozen every Tuesday at noon Central so everyone picks the same number, picks lock before kickoff (or game by game, your choice), scoring is live on game day, and the buy-in and payouts are tracked but never held. We set the league up by hand from your roster; members sign in with a six-digit code and can install it as an app. Members play free, small groups are free, and larger leagues pay one flat price per season. Survivor, squares, brackets and a bowl pool are being built and are not here yet, so a pool that needs those today should pick one of the sites above.

A spreadsheet. Still works for ten people who trust each other. It stops working around the third week somebody forgets to send picks.

How to move without losing the season

Export your roster (names and emails) from wherever it lives. Decide the three rules that matter: how many picks a week, when they lock, and what happens to a missed sheet. Pick a host and set it up the week before you switch, so the first week on the new site is a normal week and not a scramble. Standings will start fresh anywhere you go; if the old standings matter, screenshot them and post them in the new league as history.
